CAN'T GET MAD AT A NOMAD
57 Body                                                                      by Steve

To keep a long story short, I seen a fifty-seven nomad when I was sixteen and ever since that day I wanted one. At age thirty-nine I bought my 57 Chevy Nomad, a rust bucket. And at age forty-eight I am finishing the interior in a dream I had and made it come true. A nine year project coming to an end, a labor of love. Anyone out there that's been through it can relate and what a feeling when your done, and yes it's just an old car but the feeling you get when you own one. I have always felt different about 55, 56 and 57 Chevy's. There is something special about them, you have to feel it. I have to admit that I did get mad a couple of times building my car and almost gave up twice but determination and great people I have met at different times during the project kept me going. I had no idea of what I was getting into when I bought my 57 Chevy Nomad, a rust bucket. People laughed and said you will never get that car done, and at times I felt that way too. But in all honesty I have to thank a lot of people for making this car happen but most of all three people my brother Dave who lent me the money to buy the car who also found it in the newspaper and told me about it. He helped me get started and helped me for almost a year with the car.

Then I met a guy named Holley Swindle who took the car and roughed it in and got it looking good enough for me to convince Bill Kloepfer to work on it and paint it. The 56 wagon I gave Bill for working on my car helped too. I spent two years with Bill working on my car and can't thank him enough for what he did to help me build my car. He knew how much I wanted it and stuck it out with me and I have an incredible Billy black paint job, one that stands out. Growing up I would always see cars he painted and they always stood out and I always said to myself if I ever get a car painted I would like for him to paint it. The black and red colors came from a car I seen at the convention center around 1987 and it was the Chuck-A-Burger black and red 57 Chevy. Those colors stood out and so did that car. My car from the factory was a dual quad car and painted a two tone blue. I have kept the car all original with a 283 and have ralley's on it.
